Who Can Apply?

If you’re looking to complete your National Diploma with real-world experience, check if you meet these requirements:

  • You’ve successfully completed your Matric (Grade 12).
  • You’ve finished two years of theoretical training for a National Diploma in one of these fields:
    • Biotechnology
    • Microbiology
    • Environmental Sciences
    • Analytical Chemistry
  • You are a South African citizen with a valid SA ID document.
  • You are under the age of 35 (this aligns with the National Skills Development Strategy).
  • You haven’t participated in any previous experiential training programmes.
  • You require practical training to finalise your National Diploma qualification.

What Does It Cover?

This 15-month programme at Rand Water’s Scientific Services Department in Vereeniging isn’t just about ticking a box – it’s about gaining invaluable skills and hands-on experience in critical areas. You’ll be placed in one of the following high-demand disciplines:

  • Chemistry (3 positions available)
  • Microbiology (3 positions available)
  • Hydrobiology (1 position available)
  • Quality (1 position available)

During your training, you’ll gain expertise in:

  • Applying ISO 17025 principles in real laboratory settings.
  • Collecting and preparing samples for vital water quality monitoring.
  • Preparing media, chemicals, reagents, and test samples with precision.
  • Performing various analytical tests and meticulously documenting your results.
  • Conducting crucial quality control checks on analytical tests.
  • Maintaining important equipment, instrumentation, and biological cultures.
  • Strictly adhering to SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) standards and maintaining a spotless workspace.

You’ll also develop key knowledge and skills:

Knowledge

  • A strong theoretical understanding in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or Analytical Chemistry.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Computer literacy, especially with MS Word & Excel.
