The Willowton Group SANZAF Bursary is designed to support financially disadvantaged South African students with their tertiary education. It’s a collaboration between the Willowton Group, a major South African FMCG company, and SANZAF, a faith-based non-profit. This bursary isn’t a loan; it’s an outright grant, rooted in the principles of Zakah (Islamic Law), specifically intended to help students like you overcome financial barriers and achieve academic success. SANZAF handles the administration, ensuring that the funds reach those who need it most!

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for this incredible opportunity, you need to meet a few key requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You must reside in the province from which you are applying.
  • You must fall into one of these three categories:
    • Currently in Matric.
    • Currently studying at a tertiary institution and sponsored by a family member or yourself last year.
    • Currently studying at a tertiary institution and sponsored by Willowton/SANZAF last year.
  • You must demonstrate proven financial need.
  • You must have applied for NSFAS before applying for this bursary.
  • You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognized University, University of Technology, or TVET College in South Africa.
  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 65% for each subject/module.
  • You must be from a previously disadvantaged background.
  • You must meet the specific Zakah eligibility requirements of SANZAF.

What Does It Cover?

This bursary aims to ease your financial burden significantly! It will provide coverage for:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Textbooks

Additionally, depending on individual need, the bursary may also cover a laptop and a monthly stipend to help with living expenses. While the Bursary Committee will assess applications and make payments directly to your institution, please note that you will initially need to cover your own registration fees.

2. Make sure to gather and submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your online application. These are compulsory, so don’t miss anything!

For Matric Students:

  • Certified copy of your ID document (or study permit if a foreign national).
  • Certified copy of your latest Matric results.
  • A powerful motivational letter explaining why you deserve this bursary.
  • A testimonial from your school.
  • Proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed) for your parents/guardians/spouse, or yourself.

For Tertiary Students (NOT previously sponsored by SANZAF):

  • Certified copy of your ID document (or study permit if a foreign national).
  • Certified copy of your final Matric results/certificate.
  • Your full tertiary academic record (on your institution’s letterhead).
  • A powerful motivational letter explaining why you deserve this bursary.
  • A testimonial from your University, Imaam, or Religious leader.
  • Proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed) for your parents/guardians/spouse, or yourself.

For Tertiary Students (CURRENTLY sponsored by SANZAF):

  • Your final Matric results/certificate.
  • Your 2025 mid-year tertiary results (on your institution’s letterhead).
  • Proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed) for your parents/guardians/spouse, or yourself.

Important: The closing date for applications is 30 September 2025. Make sure to submit everything before this date, or your application won’t be considered!
