The SANParks EPWP Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitor Programme is a fantastic fixed-term opportunity for unemployed South African youth. Based in the stunning Agulhas National Park in the Western Cape, this programme offers three positions where you’ll play a crucial role in monitoring and managing our precious biodiversity. You’ll be working directly in a conservation environment, learning vital skills, and contributing to the incredible work SANParks does. Plus, you’ll receive a daily stipend for your hard work!
Who Can Apply?
- You need a Grade 12 / NCV Level 4 (Std 10) qualification.
- You should have a genuine interest in working in a nature conservation environment.
- Good communication skills are a must.
- Be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours.
- You must be medically fit and will undergo a medical fitness exam.
- An understanding of basic Health & Safety principles will be an advantage.
- You must have absolutely no criminal record (SAPS verification applies!).
- Added advantages: If you’re computer literate or have Basic Firefighting training, that’s a bonus!
- Preference: Ages between 18–35 will be given preference.
What You’ll Do & Earn!
- You’ll earn a fantastic R208 per day, in line with EPWP rates.
- Assist with managing tools, equipment, vehicles, herbicides, stock control, and asset management.
- Handle in-field administration like timesheets, Health & Safety checklists, logbooks, and reports.
- Monitor and record crucial resource management data.
- Support conflict resolution with contractors, providing motivation and assistance.
- Be a part of fire management efforts.
- Help with fence integrity monitoring, basic maintenance, and camp clearing.
- Get involved in ecological monitoring, restoration, and invasive alien clearing.
- Support waste-management reporting and programme activities.
- Participate in community and environmental awareness activities.
- Assist with other conservation duties and ad-hoc tasks as needed.
Important notes: This is a fixed-term contract ending on 31 March 2026. Also, please remember that no official accommodation is available, so successful candidates must arrange their own accommodation and transport.
