Who Can Apply?
Ready to hit the high notes with your application? Here’s what you generally need to be eligible for this incredible program:
- You should have the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) Ordinary Level with credits in five (5) subjects, including English Language.
- Alternatively, the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) with a credit in English Language is also accepted.
- Make sure those 5 credits were obtained in no more than two sittings, and they must be secured before you start the diploma course.
Beyond your academic certificates, your musical prowess is key! You’ll need:
- A Grade 5 or higher pass certificate in PRACTICAL music from the MUSON School of Music or another recognized music examining body.
- A Grade 5 or higher pass certificate in THEORY music from the MUSON School of Music or another recognized music examining body.
Pro Tip: If you already have these practical or theory music certificates, you likely meet the GCE (O/L) or SSCE academic requirements too. And hey, even if your theory isn’t quite there but your practical skills are off the charts, you might still be considered! Just be prepared to take a remedial theory course in your first year.
What Does It Cover?
The MTN Foundation/Muson Music Scholarship Program primarily provides access to and likely covers the tuition for a comprehensive, full-time 2-year Diploma Course in music. This isn’t just about financial aid; it’s about investing in your professional musical development!
During your diploma, you’ll receive advanced training with a wide range of major instruments and voice options, including:
- Instruments: Piano, Organ, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion, Classical Guitar.
- Voice: Classical Voice.
You’ll also get to explore two terms of an instrument minor (different from your major family). Plus, all voice students will need to pass Grade 2 piano, instrumentalists will learn vocal techniques, and everyone becomes part of the choir. String majors get to join the orchestra, while wind and percussion majors jam with the band!
