What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

Support and Maintenance:

  • Supervise and manage the AV support team in a high-volume shared service environment to achieve operational goals.
  • Manage daily team activities, including timelines, customer experience, rostering, and task prioritisation.
  • Oversee repairs and routine cleaning of AV equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve AV system problems across all venues efficiently.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Incident and Service Request processes and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Coordinate the installation and maintenance of AV hardware according to project and operational schedules.
  • Identify UJ venues requiring AV upgrades and new installations.
  • Ensure proper functionality and physical safety of all deployed AV equipment.
  • Collaborate with other ICS teams for efficient AV integration and maintenance.
  • Manage AV storerooms, controlling access and maintaining accurate inventory registers.

General Administration:

  • Ensure the safekeeping of AV equipment in venues and maintain an accurate asset register for each location.
  • Provide training to End Users, Interns, and Student Assistants on AV technologies.
  • Compile instructional AV user guides and assist with the overall AV asset register.
  • Maintain asset control by accurately tracking asset distribution.
  • Conduct assessments and provide necessary sign-offs for recently upgraded venues.
  • Perform regular Venue and AV Equipment Audits (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and class readiness checks).
  • Collaborate with ICS teams to ensure optimal AV Service Delivery.
  • Attend Campus Operational engagements and stay updated with technical advancements.

People Management:

  • Effectively manage human resources within the AV support maintenance team.
  • Conduct regular team meetings.
  • Train AV support staff on the usage and maintenance of AV equipment.
  • Monitor and control overtime expenditure within the team.

Who We’re Looking For (Minimum Requirements)

To qualify for this role, you will need:

  • Grade 12 with an IT Diploma/Certificate (NQF Level 6).
  • An AV Certification (e.g., Creston, AMX, Kramer, Extron, AVIXA AV Essentials, Audio Visual Design, Integration, and Installation certification).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in supporting AV equipment.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in team supervision.
  • 2 years of customer service experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in writing and compiling AV reports for projects and operations.
  • A valid driver’s licence.

Essential Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Knowledge of: Audio Visual systems repair and maintenance; AV equipment design, installation, configuration, setup, and operation; IT to AV hardware integration and AV programming; application of schedules; Occupational Health and Safety; ITIL Processes and Methodologies.
  • Skills in: Managing time and resources; communicating clearly and efficiently at various levels; handling conflict effectively; compiling staff schedules; persisting with tasks until completion; training new AVS staff and AV equipment users.

Recommendations (Advantageous):

  • An Electronics Certificate.
  • Any other relevant AV systems maintenance qualification.
  • Prior Team Lead or Supervisory experience.
  • Experience in Audio-Visual Support within a Higher Education environment.

Working Hours

This role involves shift work, including:

  • Weekdays: Morning shift (07:00 – 15:30) or Afternoon/Evening shift (14:00 – 22:00).
  • Weekends and Public Holidays: 07:00 – 13:00.
  • You will primarily be based at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus.
