About the Role

As a System Engineer III, you will be a key player in engineering and automating Capitec’s hybrid cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, building, and supporting scalable and secure server and storage solutions. A core part of your role will involve driving automation initiatives across various environments using tools like Ansible and Terraform, ensuring our infrastructure is resilient, future-ready, and aligned with Capitec’s digital transformation goals.

You will also serve as a technical mentor and role model, sharing your knowledge and expertise to help shape our infrastructure practices and foster a collaborative, innovative environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Lead the engineering and automation of Capitec’s hybrid cloud infrastructure.
• Design, build, and support highly scalable and secure server and storage solutions.
• Drive automation initiatives across environments using Ansible, Terraform, and other modern tools.
• Ensure infrastructure resilience, security, and alignment with digital transformation objectives.
• Provide technical mentorship and thought leadership to other engineers.
• Collaborate with teams to share knowledge and improve systems and processes.

Our Ideal Candidate Has:

• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments (especially AWS), and automation.
• Expertise in the following technologies:
  • Cloud: AWS
  • Automation & Version Control: Ansible, Terraform, Git
  • Scripting Languages: Python, PowerShell, Bash
  • Virtualization: VMware
  • Operating Systems: Windows Servers, Linux Servers
  • Storage Solutions
• A relevant IT degree or diploma is preferred, but extensive practical experience and certifications in AWS, automation, or Linux are highly valued.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
• A passion for continuous learning, leading initiatives, and improving systems and processes.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational
• Clear criminal and credit record

Preferred Requirements:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology
