Specialist: Litigation (Safeguarding of Assets)

Are you an admitted Attorney or Advocate with a passion for litigation and safeguarding assets? Capitec Bank is looking for a dedicated Specialist to join their team in Sandton. In this role, you will play a crucial part in managing legal processes related to asset recovery and collections, helping the bank minimize losses and maximize financial recoveries.

What You’ll Do

• Initiate, monitor, and control legal processes to ensure the effective recovery of various types of collateral for non-performing loans.
• Provide expert legal advice and input for the Collections department to maximize recoveries, release impairments, and minimize collection costs and new impairments.
• Conduct financial assessments, negotiations, and restructures of distressed debt to achieve optimal outcomes.

Who We’re Looking For (Experience)

Minimum Requirements:

• You must be an Admitted Attorney or Advocate.
• You need at least 2-3 years of post-admission experience in civil and/or commercial litigation.

Ideal Experience:

• Preferably 3+ years of post-admission experience in civil and/or commercial litigation, with at least 2 years specifically in a Collections and Recoveries environment.

Your Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• A relevant postgraduate degree in Law or Commerce.

Ideal or Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master’s Degree in Law or Business Administration.

Minimum Knowledge:

• Up-to-date understanding of the Collections and Recoveries landscape.
• Solid knowledge of Insolvency legislation and processes.
• Strong grasp of Credit legislation and processes.
• Familiarity with the Banking and Financial Services Industry.
• Expertise in Litigation processes and Debt Recovery processes.
• Understanding of various Collateral types.

Ideal Knowledge:

• Understanding of commercial, business, and financial principles and practices.
• Knowledge of governance and risk management principles.
• Experience with data analytics.
• Deeper understanding of the Banking and Financial Services Industry.
