What You Will Do (Duties)

As a Social Worker Grade 1, you will be crucial in providing comprehensive social work services within a health context, with a focus on community mental health. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting assessments, developing intervention plans, and providing therapeutic support to patients and their families.
  • Managing social work cases effectively, ensuring high-quality care and appropriate referrals to other services.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to address the holistic needs of clients.
  • Engaging in community outreach and support programs, particularly in mental health social services.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential client records and compiling necessary reports.
  • Adhering strictly to all social work legislations, ethical guidelines, and departmental policies.
  • Utilising your knowledge of social systems and intervention skills to promote social and mental well-being for individuals interacting with health environments.

Who We Are Looking For (Requirements)

To be considered for this vital role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
  • Be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker.
  • Provide a certified copy of your current Annual Practice Certificate and proof of registration with SACSSP.
  • Possess a valid South African driver’s license. (An exception will be granted for people with disabilities where a driver’s license is mandatory).
  • Have a strong understanding of the legislative framework for health social work, public service legislation, and Gauteng Department of Health policies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in all methods of social work.
  • Experience in community mental health Social Services will be a significant advantage.
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal, IT, financial, and human resource management skills.
  • Be capable of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Exhibit strong analytical thinking, independent decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of PFMA and Public Service Act and Regulations is also required.
