Senior Project or Contracts Manager (Msikaba, Eastern Cape)

Are you an experienced Project or Contracts Manager looking for a challenging senior role in the Eastern Cape? A leading construction firm is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to oversee large and complex infrastructure projects, specifically in bridges, roads, and earthworks, in Msikaba.

About the Role

As a Senior Project or Contracts Manager, you will take overall responsibility for effective site management. Your core focus will be to optimise financial performance, implement robust site-specific systems (including costing, quality control, health & safety), and maintain strong relationships with clients and other key stakeholders. This critical leadership role ensures project success from inception to completion.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Assume full responsibility for the safe and efficient management of one or more large and intricate infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure that projects consistently achieve and exceed their budgeted turnover and profitability targets.
  • Oversee and manage subcontractors and suppliers effectively, while being deeply involved in project planning and programming.
  • Act as the primary liaison for all stakeholders, including senior management and client representatives.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive weekly and monthly management reports.
  • Provide expert assistance and solutions to Site Managers for complex operational and commercial challenges.
  • Translate Group and platform initiatives and goals into actionable plans for site implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement Department to assist in the submission and successful acquisition of new tenders.
  • Train, mentor, and performance manage subordinate Site Managers across various project sites.

What You’ll Need (Qualifications & Skills)

Qualifications:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • Mandatory professional registration with SACPCMP.
  • A minimum of 15 years of proven experience as a Project Manager within the construction industry, with substantial experience in the construction of Bridges, Roads, and Earthworks.
  • Must possess a valid South African Driver’s License.
  • Must be a South African Citizen.

Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word & Outlook).
  • Exceptional methodical thinking and the ability to manage large, complex sections of a project independently.
  • Strong ability to read, understand, and organise construction Plans and Specifications.
  • Working knowledge of CCS estimating and planning modules.
  • Solid understanding of the OHS Act and Construction Regulations.
  • Good working knowledge of various conditions of contract specifications (e.g., FIDIC, GCC, NEC).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also exercising independent judgment.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and perform well under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
