Senior Lecturer/Lecturer
The University of Cape Town (UCT), a leading research-intensive African university, invites applications for three (3) permanent full-time Senior Lecturer or Lecturer positions within its esteemed College of Accounting.
We are seeking highly skilled and professionally qualified individuals to contribute to our dynamic team in Cape Town. These roles are crucial for teaching and shaping future Chartered Accountants (CA(SA)) in our SAICA-endorsed programmes.

We have vacancies for both Senior Lecturers and Lecturers in the following critical areas:
- Financial Reporting
- Governance, Audit and Assurance
Who We’re Looking For
Requirements for Senior Lecturer Level Position:
- Professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) or a comparable professional accounting designation.
- A relevant Master’s degree.
- A developing national reputation in the field, with contributions to knowledge such as papers in academic journals, citations, or major research monographs.
- Demonstrable teaching experience of at least three (3) years at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in professional accounting programmes. This includes experience in curriculum design, creating learning materials, course oversight, postgraduate supervision, and mentoring junior staff.
- Experience in academic administration and leadership roles at course, departmental, faculty, and/or university level.
- Contributions, based on academic skills, to bodies outside the university.
Requirements for Lecturer Level Position:
- Professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) or a comparable professional accounting designation.
- Demonstrable teaching ability and strong presentation skills. Evidence could include public speaking, lecturing, tutoring, workshops, training, or creating learning materials.
Advantageous Qualifications and Experience:
For Senior Lecturer or Lecturer:
- Post-training practical business experience.
For Lecturer:
- A relevant Master’s degree.
- Teaching experience at an undergraduate and/or postgraduate level on a professional accounting programme.
- Experience in academic administration and leadership roles at course and/or departmental level.
Your Responsibilities
Responsibilities at Senior Lecturer Level:
- Teach and supervise students at undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional levels on SAICA-endorsed programmes.
- Convene at least one course or programme at an undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Actively participate in research and scholarship that benefits the College and the accounting profession.
- Perform academic administrative tasks at College, Faculty, and/or University levels.
- Demonstrate academic leadership, management, and administration.
- Participate in College initiatives, especially those focused on transformation objectives.
Responsibilities at Lecturer Level:
- Teach students at an undergraduate and/or postgraduate level on a SAICA-endorsed programme.
- Engage in research and scholarship that benefits the College and the accounting profession.
- Perform academic administrative tasks at College and/or Faculty levels.
- Contribute to academic leadership, management, and administration, appropriate to your level.
- Participate in College initiatives, especially those focused on transformation objectives.
What We Offer
These are permanent full-time positions. The 2025 annual remuneration packages, including benefits, are as follows:
- Senior Lecturer: R 1,147,460
- Lecturer: R 941,184
