Senior Labour Relations Officer

The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Labour Relations Officer to join their Human Resources Management & Development team in Johannesburg. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in managing labour relations, ensuring fair practices, and supporting the department’s objectives.

About the Role

As a Senior Labour Relations Officer, you will be responsible for advising management, employees, and trade unions on labour relations matters. You will implement strategies, policies, and procedures related to grievances, discipline, and dispute resolution within the Public Service Legislative Framework. We are looking for 2 individuals to fill these crucial positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice to management, employees, and trade union officials on all Labour Relations services.
  • Implement and enforce Labour Relations strategies, policies, and procedures effectively.
  • Oversee the implementation of departmental Labour Relations policies, procedures, and circulars concerning grievances, disciplinary actions, abscondments, and suspensions, in line with Public Service frameworks.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and improve disciplinary processes within the department.
  • Manage and facilitate grievance processes efficiently.
  • Coordinate and facilitate dispute resolution mechanisms, including conciliation, arbitration, and collective bargaining.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Matric Certificate combined with a National Diploma or Degree in Labour Relations or Human Resources Management, recognized by SAQA.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in Labour Relations.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is essential.

Skills & Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of Labour Relations, Human Resource Management, Public Service Legislative Frameworks, Collective Agreements, and PSCBC Resolutions.
  • Familiarity with the Persal System and Organisational Design, including transformation and its associated challenges.
  • Strong strategic capability and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in programme and project management.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict management abilities.
  • Sound financial and knowledge management skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, along with strong report writing skills.
  • A positive and proactive attitude.

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a competitive package of R325,101.00 Per Annum, plus benefits.
