Project Manager (3-Year Contract)

The University of Cape Town (UCT), Faculty of Health Sciences, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Project Manager for a 3-year contract position. Based in Cape Town, this role is crucial for the Redesigning Emergency care to Serve Communities (RESCo) project within the Division of Emergency Medicine.

About the RESCo Project

RESCo is an innovative collaboration between UCT’s Division of Emergency Medicine and the Western Cape Government Department of Health and Wellness (WCGHW). The project aims to develop and implement community-oriented emergency care models in pilot communities. As the Project Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating community stakeholder activities, ensuring the project progresses smoothly, and working with communities to design, implement, and evaluate differentiated models of care (DMOC).

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide the selection and collaboration with pilot RESCo communities and their stakeholders.
  • Build and strengthen connections between communities and the RESCo project team.
  • Support, execute, lead, and provide feedback on the design, implementation, and evaluation of DMOCs.
  • Organise and facilitate quarterly meetings for RESCo community sites to share progress on in-hospital and out-of-hospital care.
  • Ensure effective communication between RESCo communities and stakeholders.
  • Schedule and prepare semi-annual updates for the RESCo steering committee.
  • Assist with the analysis and documentation of RESCo communities’ progress.
  • Coordinate activities with the Healthy Futures South Africa project team.
  • Travel to various study sites, including George, Saldana Bay, and Heideveld.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master of Public Health or an equivalent graduate qualification.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrable experience in project management.
  • At least 3 years of experience in implementing community-based health projects.
  • Proven background and experience working in resource-constrained communities within the Western Cape Province.
  • Experience in community engagement and capacity building.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a self-driven approach.
  • Basic understanding of the operations of community health, EMS, and emergency centres.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience within the emergency care field, either in a prehospital environment or within emergency centres.
  • A valid South African driver’s license.

Advantageous Skills and Experience

  • Existing working relationships with Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Emergency and Clinical Services Support (ECSS), and community-based organisations.
  • Experience in strategic planning, administration, and oversight.
  • HPCSA registration as an emergency care provider (e.g., Basic Ambulance Assistant or Paramedic).

Salary and Contract Details

This is a Payclass 10 position with an annual cost of employment, including benefits, ranging between R639,581 and R752,447. This is a 3-year fixed-term contract.
