Job Overview

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is seeking a highly motivated and established academic to fill the position of Professor/Associate Professor in Land and Agrarian Studies at the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS).

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research and publishing in the field of land and agrarian studies
  • Generating research grants and initiating income-generating projects
  • Facilitating learning and teaching
  • Undertaking postgraduate supervision
  • Curriculum development and assessment
  • Providing mentorship to emerging scholars
  • Participating in community engagement and outreach
  • Contributing to a high public profile for PLAAS nationally and internationally
  • Providing academic and administrative leadership

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A PhD or NQF equivalent in a relevant discipline from a reputable university
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching
  • Extensive experience of social science research on topics relevant to PLAAS
  • A demonstrated capacity for fundraising
  • Extensive experience and proven competence in academic leadership and management
  • A track record of quality publications and postgraduate supervision
