Professor/Associate Professor (Faculty of Law: Department of Public Law) (Re-advert)
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is looking for a dedicated and experienced Professor or Associate Professor to join its Faculty of Law, specifically in the Department of Public Law. This is a permanent position located at our Auckland Park Kingsway Campus in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

About the Role
As a Professor/Associate Professor, you will actively contribute to our vision by excelling in teaching, research, and community engagement. You will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of legal minds.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Public Law, including Criminal Law, Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, Interpretation Theory, and Environmental Law.
- Supervise postgraduate students (dissertations and theses).
- Conduct and publish high-quality research in accredited local and international journals, book chapters, books, and monographs in Public Law.
- Fulfill administrative and committee duties within the Faculty and Department, and the broader University.
- Mentor emerging staff members in the Faculty of Law.
- Attract funding and initiatives to advance teaching and research.
- Participate in community engagement projects that create societal impact.
Minimum Requirements
- A doctoral degree (PhD) in Public Law (with specialization in Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Interpretation Theory, Jurisprudence, Introduction to Legal Studies, or Human Rights).
- At least 5 years or more of lecturing experience in Public Law.
- A strong record of publications in reputable and accredited journals, book chapters, and books.
- Demonstrated commitment to research-led teaching, research, and innovation.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Proven experience in postgraduate supervision, including successfully supervising doctoral students to completion.
- An NRF Rating (especially at Professor level) is highly advantageous.
- Evidence of success in developing external research grant applications (especially at Professor level).

- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Experience integrating ICT in teaching and learning (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle) and electronic assessment techniques.
- Ability to administer large undergraduate modules.
- Capacity to work collegially within established processes.
- Punctual, innovative, proactive, and creative.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, even in a pressurised environment.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
- High level of integrity and ethical conduct.

- Experience teaching large groups of students.
- Experience lecturing undergraduates.
- Involvement in curriculum development and transformation.
- Familiarity with blended learning techniques.
- Experience in compiling and developing study guides.
- Experience with media engagement and writing opinion pieces relevant to the discipline.
- Knowledge of University policies, rules, and regulations.
