Position Summary

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is seeking a Professor/Associate Professor to join the Faculty of Law, Department of Mercantile Law. The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in and support the primary goals and objectives of the Faculty and the Department.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules, supervising postgraduate students, conducting and publishing research, and taking on administrative and committee roles within the Faculty and Department.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Mercantile Law
  • Supervise postgraduate students in their dissertations and theses
  • Conduct and publish research in local, international, accredited journals, book chapters, books, and monographs
  • Take on administrative and committee roles within the Faculty and Department
  • Play the role of mentor to emerging staff
  • Attract and sustain fundraising initiatives and strategies
  • Participate in community engagement initiatives

Minimum Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in Mercantile Law (Corporate Law and Insolvency Law)
  • At least 5 years’ lecturing experience in Mercantile Law
  • Strong publication track record in reputable and accredited journals, book chapters, and books
  • Strong commitment to research-led teaching, research, and innovation
