Professional Nurse (Post Level 9) – University of the Free State (UFS)

The University of the Free State (UFS) is seeking dedicated and experienced Professional Nurses to join the Health Centre at its Qwaqwa Campus. We have two positions available, offered on either a permanent or a two-year contract basis. About the Role

As a Professional Nurse, you will be an integral part of the Student Affairs Health Centre team. Your primary responsibilities will include clinical duties, health promotion, and support services for students. This position is at a Junior Management occupational level, offering a chance to make a significant impact on campus health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform professional clinical duties at the Primary Health Clinic.
  • Provide comprehensive HIV counselling and treatment, including initiating treatment after counselling.
  • Accurately capture clinical notes and patient information on the electronic medical system.
  • Implement and maintain quality control standards within the clinic environment.
  • Manage the ordering and stock control of medication and medical equipment for the clinic.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies on campus and assist with first aid services at sport events when required.
  • Organise, arrange, and assist with health and HIV awareness campaigns across the campus.
  • Coordinate and provide support to students involved in the Peer Education program.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for Peer Educators on various health promotion and prevention topics.
  • Develop relevant training material in line with program outcomes and objectives.
  • Implement prevention programs and health initiatives for the campus community.
  • Present informative sessions to students and staff on important health matters.
  • Liaise effectively with internal university departments and external healthcare role-players.

What You Need to Apply (Inherent Requirements)

To be considered for this vital role, you must meet the following mandatory criteria. Please ensure copies of all relevant documents are attached to your online application:

  • A Nursing Diploma or Degree covering General, Psychiatric, Midwifery, and Community Nursing.
  • A Post-Basic Diploma or Degree in Primary Healthcare.
  • A valid Dispensing Certificate.
  • Completion of the Nurse Initiated Management of Antiretroviral Therapy (NIMART) course.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).
  • Proof of current and valid registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience gained in a primary health care clinic environment.
  • A valid South African Driver’s Licence.

Advantageous Skills and Experience (Recommendations)

The following will be considered an added advantage, though not strictly required:

  • Own reliable transport.
  • An active dispensing licence (beyond the certificate).
  • Previous experience working with young adults or students in a healthcare or educational setting.
