Officer (post level 11/10): Occupational Health and Safety
The University of the Free State is seeking an Officer for Occupational Health and Safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, managing contractors and suppliers, and implementing emergency management plans.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Officer will be responsible for:
- Contractor/Supplier Management: Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting periodic inspections, and attending project meetings.
- Event Management: Planning and implementing health and safety measures for events, ensuring cooperation and coordination with other stakeholders.
- Safety/Health Management: Conducting audits and inspections, verifying compliance with regulations, and implementing health and safety plans.
- Emergency Management: Implementing emergency and disaster plans, inspecting buildings, and coordinating training for emergency coordinators.
- Injury on Duty Management: Reporting incidents, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining records.
- Smoking Policy Implementation: Assessing buildings, appointing smoking champions, and ensuring designated smoking areas are available.
Inherent Job Requirements
The successful candidate must have:
- A Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or Environmental Health.
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant working experience.
- A valid driver’s license (Code 8(B)).
