Manager: Innovation Hub – (2150)
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is searching for a passionate and experienced Manager to lead its Innovation Hub Precinct. This is a full-time, permanent position located at the UWC Innovation Hub in Parow, Western Cape, South Africa.

This exciting opportunity involves spearheading the strategic growth and day-to-day operations of UWC’s Innovation Hub, driving innovative projects, engaging with crucial stakeholders, and contributing to broader economic development initiatives.
What You’ll Be Doing (Key Responsibilities):
Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Develop and implement comprehensive plans for the Innovation Hub Precinct.
- Ensure that all precinct projects align with wider economic development and innovation strategies.
- Apply strategic thinking and strong business acumen to guide the Hub’s direction.
Project Management
- Oversee the successful delivery of multiple innovation-focused projects from start to finish.
- Guarantee timely execution, adherence to budget, and high-quality outcomes for all projects.
- Utilize best practices in agile, design thinking, or other relevant innovation methodologies.
Precinct Management
- Coordinate the use of facilities, including studios and showrooms, to ensure optimal utilization.
- Liaise with various departments to manage infrastructure and equipment maintenance, ensuring smooth operation of academic activities and technological resources within the Hub.
- Organize and oversee a range of events, such as tours, and manage all related administrative functions.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and nurture strong partnerships with universities, startups, investors, industry leaders, and government entities.
- Facilitate effective collaboration and engagement among diverse stakeholders on various platforms.
- Manage customer relationships and maintain clear communication with both internal university departments and external market partners essential for the Hub’s collaborations.
Governance & Reporting
- Ensure full compliance with all governance, regulatory, and funding requirements.
- Provide regular reports on project milestones, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and the overall performance of the precinct.
- Compile and manage the annual operational budget for the Innovation Hub.
Operational Oversight & People Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the precinct, including facilities management, tenant relations, and administrative tasks.
- Manage procurement processes, service contracts, and optimize space utilization.
- Supervise interns and other student assistants, assisting with recruitment and supporting the implementation and improvement of ARVR Development Programmes.
Business Development & Ecosystem Growth
- Actively promote the precinct as a leading hub for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
- Attract new tenants, strategic partners, and investment opportunities to the Hub.
- Champion and promote immersive technologies and other advanced facilities to foster future business growth.
Minimum Requirements:
- An Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Business, Management, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a coordinator or management role within a relevant sector, with at least 2 years specifically managing a precinct.
- A valid Driver’s License with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Strong strategic thinking and commercial acumen.
- Proven experience within innovation ecosystems or in precinct management.
- Proficiency in financial and contract management.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong planning and organizing capabilities.
- High degree of adaptability and flexibility.
- Ability to effectively manage and collaborate within diverse teams.
