Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Psychology, you will be instrumental in shaping the next generation of psychologists. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing a strong academic presence within the department.
- Teaching and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology modules.
- Guiding and supervising postgraduate students in their studies.
- Initiating and conducting high-quality research, contributing to academic publications.
- Participating in curriculum development and review processes.
- Engaging in community outreach and service-learning initiatives.
- Recruiting senior students for postgraduate programmes.
- Performing essential organisational and administrative duties.
What You’ll Need (Inherent Requirements)
For a Lecturer Position:
- A PhD in Psychology (NQF Level 10) for a permanent appointment, OR
- A Master’s degree in Psychology (NQF Level 9) for a five-year contract appointment, with a commitment to obtain a PhD (NQF Level 10) in Psychology within this period for conversion to a permanent position.
- Three (3) years of active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST (a copy of your registration is required).
- Previous teaching or facilitation experience at a tertiary level (e.g., tutoring, temporary teaching, training).
- Evidence of research potential or productivity (e.g., participation in research projects, manuscripts under review, published conference papers, or significant progress towards a PhD).
- A strong academic record (please attach).
For a Senior Lecturer Position:
- A PhD in Psychology (NQF Level 10).
- Three (3) years of active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST (a copy of your registration is required).
- Proven experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology modules.
- Demonstrated experience in presenting papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
- A verifiable research record of publications in peer-reviewed national and/or international accredited journals.
- A proven record of successful postgraduate research supervision at Master’s level.
- Demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
- A strong academic record (please attach).
Recommendations:
- Involvement in departmental and faculty activities is highly recommended.
