The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is looking for a dedicated and passionate Lecturer to join the Department of Emergency Medical Care within the Faculty of Health Sciences. This is a permanent, full-time position located at our Doornfontein Campus, open to all qualified candidates. Remuneration will be market-related. This role is crucial for teaching, learning, and research in the field of Emergency Medical Care.

The Department of Emergency Medical Care at UJ’s Doornfontein Campus offers a diverse range of emergency medical care and rescue qualifications, playing a vital role in training future healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities of a Lecturer

As a Lecturer, your main duties will involve:

  • Leading teaching, learning, and assessment activities for undergraduate students in emergency medical care, focusing on areas like Physical Preparedness, Professional Practice, and pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Facilitating and participating in clinical learning, Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities, simulated learning environments, and student placements, including mentorship.
  • Developing and continuously refining online course materials to ensure engaging and effective learning experiences.
  • Organizing and conducting physical fitness and swimming training sessions, along with their associated assessments.
  • Supervising research projects for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

What You Need to Apply (Minimum Requirements)

To be successful in this role, you must meet these essential requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in Emergency Medical Care (NQF Level 9).
  • A minimum of two years’ current registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner.
  • One to two years of proven experience in teaching and learning at a tertiary institution.
  • Possession of a Code B driver’s license.
  • The ability to successfully pass departmental physical fitness and swimming assessments.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • A highly enthusiastic, tenacious approach, coupled with a deep passion for clinical work and teaching.

Highly Recommended (Advantages):

Candidates with the following will have an advantage:

  • Familiarity with faculty and academic policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Expertise in relevant analytical techniques, approaches, and models.
  • Prior experience with online and/or remote learning platforms.
