About the Faculty of Natural Sciences

UWC’s Faculty of Natural Sciences is globally recognized for its excellent teaching and research. It includes nine academic departments, a School of Pharmacy, and various world-class research centers. The faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in major scientific fields and a professional Pharmacy degree.

About the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics has an active research program covering diverse areas like Algebra, Topology, Coding Theory, Graph Theory, Mathematical Physics, Computational Finance, Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Biology, and Mathematics Education. It plays a crucial role in a research-intensive university, focusing on both pure and applied mathematics research, teaching within the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and providing foundational courses across the university.

The Opportunity: Lecturer in Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP)

The Department is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic academic to join as a Lecturer in Mathematics, specifically for the Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP). This permanent, full-time position requires expertise in Mathematics or Mathematics Education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate learning for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
  • Conduct research and publish findings in Mathematics or Mathematics Education.
  • Supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate students.
  • Develop curriculum and assess student performance.
  • Engage in community outreach initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • An MSc in Mathematics and current PhD registration with a clear completion plan.
  • Proven teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • A track record of successful postgraduate supervision at the Honours level.
  • Evidence of research publications in accredited journals.

Advantageous Criteria

  • Experience teaching mathematics within an Extended Curriculum Programme.
  • Experience teaching mathematics and applied mathematics beyond first-year.
  • Experience in educational or academic development work.
  • Experience working effectively in a team.

  • Adaptability and ability to thrive in a diverse environment.
  • Strong student-focused approach.
  • Ability and interest in supervising postgraduate research, particularly industry-directed projects.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Effective presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Solid knowledge and skills in the discipline, and in core strategic areas like learning and teaching, research, scholarship, and community engagement.
