Junior Research Fellow (AIRU)

The Artificial Intelligence Research Unit (AIRU) at the University of Cape Town is seeking a Junior Research Fellow to join the AIRU team’s research programme in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning.

Requirements for the Position:

• A PhD in Artificial Intelligence or related field.
• Post PhD research experience in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning.
• Excellent research track record including a demonstrated ability for independent research and publications in high-quality journals.

Responsibilities:

• Undertake and participate in AIRU research projects in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning.
• Conduct independent research and prepare peer-reviewed conference and journal papers, and supervise and mentor postgraduate students in the AI Research Unit (80%).
• Research administration, such as writing funding proposals, and research project coordination and management (20%).

The tenure of the position is3 years, renewal each year being dependent on the delivery of a satisfactory progress report to the Research Office at the end of month11 of every12-month cycle.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is R658000 per annum for3 years.
