About the Role: Head of Executive Education Programmes (P5)

JBS is seeking a visionary Senior Manager to lead its Executive Education department. This crucial role focuses on positioning JBS as a global leader in executive development, driving revenue growth, and ensuring the quality and relevance of program offerings. You will lead a high-performing team and manage key stakeholders and partnerships, particularly in areas impacted by digital transformation.

A key focus of this position is to examine the business implications of established and emerging digital technologies and practices in a super-diverse world.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Leading and appraising your direct reports (Programme Manager/Coordinator).
  • Overseeing resource distribution across programmes.
  • Contributing to staff recruitment and ensuring adequate staffing levels.
  • Ensuring compliance with HR systems and processes, managing personnel records, and addressing disciplinary matters.
  • Mentoring and coaching your team to foster productive team dynamics.
  • Driving LEAN management and continuous improvement of core processes.
  • Crafting and refining the Executive Education strategy in line with market demand and resources.
  • Collaborating with the Dean, EE team, and Finance Manager on strategy oversight.
  • Maintaining overall responsibility for all academic administration processes.
  • Overseeing EE processes and policies, making necessary amendments for optimal teamwork.
  • Actively participating in school committees.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with faculty, UJ/JBS departments, and clients.
  • Ensuring programme relevance by monitoring evaluations and client needs.
  • Staying informed on national and international trends in management education to advise clients effectively.
  • Managing major student/client issues like plagiarism or dissatisfaction.
  • Maintaining contact with alumni and proactively pursuing new clients.
  • Representing JBS at national and international conferences and events.
  • Engaging with external committees to understand the environment and showcase JBS.
  • Monitoring and participating in national and international ratings surveys (FT and FM).
  • Reviewing, developing, and adjusting programme curricula with relevant stakeholders.
  • Managing new and renewing Service Level Agreements with clients.
  • Collaborating with the Dean and Finance to compile the annual departmental budget.
  • Ensuring targeted margins are met through cost management.
  • Working with the Business Developer to achieve sales targets, assist with lead generation, presentations, and closing deals.
  • Making key decisions on the commencement and closure of programme offerings based on profitability.
  • Scrutinizing financial reports to inform strategic programme decisions and future budgets.
  • Monitoring purchasing transactions.
  • Working closely with the Marketing Manager to develop and refine marketing strategies for short courses, leveraging analytics.
  • Attending key external events to market the EE Department.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A relevant MBA or Master’s degree (NQF 9).
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of management experience at a director level, preferably within higher education.
  • Strong networks within the private and public sectors.
  • Knowledge and experience in executive education in Africa and globally.
  • Experience in executive education design.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and think critically.
  • Experience in Business School marketing and business development.
  • Practical experience in a Business School environment.
  • Experience in running programmes, workshops, and seminars.
  • Extensive networks in business, policy circles, and academia across Africa and global markets.
  • Proven experience in budgeting and planning.
  • A healthy publication record and research output (academic, applied research, and media).
  • Exposure to Master’s and Doctoral coordination.

Recommendations (Advantageous):

  • A relevant Doctoral degree (NQF 10).
  • Previous lecturing experience.
  • Experience as a Researcher.
  • Ability to actively undertake research and publish in high-quality academic journals.
  • Commercial/corporate business experience.
