DIRECTOR: MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL REPORTING
The Gauteng Treasury is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join their team as the Director of Municipal Accounting and Financial Reporting. This is a pivotal senior management role responsible for providing strategic leadership and ensuring the highest standards of financial management and reporting across municipalities in Gauteng.
About the Role
As the Director, you will lead the Municipal Accounting, Reporting and Asset Management directorate. You will be instrumental in overseeing the implementation of accounting standards, providing critical support to municipalities, and monitoring internal audit functions to enhance financial governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and effective management for the directorate.
- Oversee and monitor the implementation of accounting standards (including GRAP) to ensure the quality and integrity of municipal annual financial statements.
- Lead and manage the provision of accounting services and comprehensive support to various municipalities and municipal entities.
- Spearhead the monitoring of Internal Audit Activities and Audit Committees within municipalities.
- Offer essential support and capacity-building initiatives to municipal Internal Audit Activities and Audit Committees.
- Actively participate in both internal and external intergovernmental relations structures.
Requirements
- Qualifications: An NQF Level 7 qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, Auditing, Internal Auditing, Cost Management, or Cost Accounting.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience at a Middle or Senior Management level within Financial Management, Accounting, Auditing, Internal Auditing, Cost Management, or Cost Accounting.
- Compulsory Certificate: A Pre-entry SMS Certificate is mandatory for appointment. This course can be accessed via the National School of Government (NSG) website: NSG SMS Pre-Entry Programme.
Salary & Benefits
This position offers an attractive all-inclusive package of R1,266,714 per annum. This package typically includes a basic salary (70%) and a flexible portion structured according to applicable guidelines.
