Desktop Technician (one year contract)
Are you a skilled IT professional looking for a challenging one-year contract? The Department of Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs is seeking four dedicated Desktop Technicians to join their Information Communication and Technology Services (ICTS) team in Johannesburg.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to the department’s ICT infrastructure, providing essential support to ensure smooth operations.
About the Role
As a Desktop Technician, you will be crucial in providing technical support and maintaining the department’s IT systems. This role involves assisting with various tasks, from resolving user issues to maintaining network stability and ensuring data security.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to and resolve IT support calls within agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
- Provide technical assistance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and support for desktop installations, re-imaging, and software updates.
- Assist the Supervisor with server and network-related issues.
- Support the delivery of various ICT and desktop support projects.
- Conduct manual audits of network PCs and servers.
- Ensure servers have the latest security patches and antivirus software installed.
- Create and manage shared folders for directorates.
- Monitor and maintain the IT infrastructure, reporting any issues.
- Assist in drafting and amending CIO policies for the department.
- Attend internal and external IT meetings as required.
- Advise on the warranty status of existing IT infrastructure.
What You’ll Need (Requirements)
- Education: Matric certificate combined with an NQF Level 6 / three-year Diploma in IT or a related qualification.
- Experience: 2-3 years of relevant experience in the ICT field.
- Key Competencies:
- Knowledge of service desk systems and support processes.
- Familiarity with ICT asset management policies and practices.
- Understanding of IT legislation, regulations, and policies.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Good record-keeping, interpersonal relations, and telephone etiquette.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Teams.
- Basic technical support knowledge, report writing, and A+ certification.
- Understanding of finance and HR matters, planning, organizing, and safety.
Salary & Benefits
This position offers a competitive package of R269,499.00 per annum, plus additional benefits. This calculates to approximately R22,000 – R23,000 per month.
