The Gauteng Department of Health, in partnership with leading academic institutions, is seeking experienced Dentists to join their team as Lecturers. This dual role offers an exciting opportunity to shape future dental professionals, conduct research, and provide specialized patient treatment, particularly in Endodontics.

About the Role

As a Dentist/Lecturer, you will be integral to the education and training of dental students while also contributing to clinical service delivery. These are joint appointments, linking your role with the Gauteng Department of Health and one of the prestigious academic institutions: the University of Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, or Sefako Makgatho University.

Salary Package

This position offers a highly competitive, all-inclusive annual package, structured across three grades based on experience and qualifications:

  • Grade 1: R972,612 – R1,078,116 per annum
  • Grade 2: R1,142,553 – R1,247,202 per annum
  • Grade 3: R1,322,352 – R1,647,630 per annum

Key Requirements

To be eligible for this challenging yet rewarding position, you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • A BChD or an equivalent qualification in Dentistry.
  • Current and valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dentist in the independent practice category.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience post-Community Service.
  • Demonstrable experience in the treatment of Endodontic patients.
  • Highly Advantageous: A postgraduate qualification in Endodontics, along with prior experience in teaching, student training, and dental research.

Duties and Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will encompass both academic and clinical aspects, including:

  • Delivering lectures and practical training to students in areas such as Endodontics, Dental Material Science, Basic Restorative Dentistry, and Paedodontics.
  • Providing clinical supervision and guidance to students within the Department of Odontology’s clinical wards.
  • Actively participating in research projects and contributing to scientific publications.
  • Performing selective clinical duties as determined by the Head of Department, which may include managing and treating patients with special healthcare needs.
