Coordinator II: Postgraduate Student Experience (P8) (UJ Postgraduate School: Research Capacity Development) (3 Year Fixed-Term Contract)

We are looking for a dedicated Coordinator II to enhance the postgraduate student experience within the Research Capacity Development (RCD) unit of the UJ Postgraduate School.
About the Role
As a Coordinator II, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective and efficient coordination and facilitation of postgraduate programmes and workshops within the RCD unit. This is a 3-year fixed-term contract position based at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Organise and facilitate needs-driven research capacity development opportunities for postgraduate students.
- Coordinate comprehensive research capacity development programmes throughout the postgraduate student’s research journey.
- Plan, coordinate, and assist with research communication events such as the UJ Visualise Your Thesis (VYT), 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, and the Annual Postgraduate Conference, along with other RCD events.
- Utilise Moodle or other appropriate platforms for distance learning, creating an enabling environment within the learning management system (LMS).
- Engage in communication, marketing, quality assurance, impact measurement, administration, and reporting activities to add value to all RCD initiatives.
What You’ll Need (Minimum Requirements)
Qualifications & Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree or a relevant qualification (NQF 7).
- 3 to 5 years of experience in administering academic programmes or projects within a higher education institution.
- Experience in a coordination role within a higher education environment.
- Experience in supervising, mentoring, or guiding postgraduate students.
- Experience in curriculum development or coordinating postgraduate programmes.
- Proficiency in using online or distance learning programmes, digital technologies, and social media.
- Experience in facilitating postgraduate programmes.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate academic courses, programmes, and processes.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office programmes.
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong administrative, planning, and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for effective report writing.
- Ability to manage high volumes of communication and maintain responsiveness.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A keen eye for identifying and mitigating risks.

Highly Recommended
- A Master’s degree, or current registration for a Master’s degree or higher.
- Sound understanding of the postgraduate student journey through supervision, mentoring, or guiding experience.
- Strategic planning abilities for postgraduate workshops and seminars.
- Understanding the unique demands of postgraduate study.
