

Clinical Educator
The University of Cape Town (UCT) is seeking a dedicated Clinical Educator specializing in Palliative Care. This impactful 4-year contract position, involving 30 hours of work per week, is based within the Division of Interdisciplinary Palliative Care and Medicine (IPCM) in the Faculty of Health Sciences. You will play a crucial role in enhancing palliative care services across various Western Cape sites as part of the Healthy Futures programme.
About the Role
As a Clinical Educator, your main responsibility will be to provide essential training, mentorship, and evaluation for the integration of palliative care into primary healthcare in Vredenburg, Heideveld, and George. This dynamic role requires face-to-face teaching, hands-on mentorship, and regular visits to clinical sites.
Who We Are Looking For
To be successful in this position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a degree in Nursing or Social Work.
- Possess a postgraduate qualification in Palliative Care at NQF level 8.
- Be currently registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a registered/professional nurse, or with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a social worker.
- Have at least three years of experience in palliative care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of palliative care policy, health equity, and human rights in health.
- Understand low- and middle-income health systems, and the health sector’s services as they relate to Palliative Care.
- Proven experience in teaching and mentorship.
- Prior experience working at the primary care level and with home care services.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Verbal proficiency in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to build and maintain strong partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Access to your own transport for clinical site visits and other off-campus meetings, which may require overnight stays.
Bonus Points If You Have
- Research skills.
- A Master’s degree relevant to palliative care.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
This role encompasses teaching, mentorship, research, and social responsiveness, with a strong focus on transformation and equity. You may also be required to perform administrative functions at Divisional, Departmental, Faculty, and University levels as needed.
Salary
The annual cost of employment for this position (30 hours per week), including benefits, ranges from R543,341 to R648,985.
