Salary Package
This position offers a competitive all-inclusive salary package of R 1 266 450 Per Annum. The package can be structured to meet the successful individual’s needs.
Requirements
To be considered for this senior role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Qualifications: Grade 12 Certificate combined with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural/Civil Engineering (NQF Level 7), as recognised by SAQA.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 years post-qualification experience in Agricultural Engineering.
- Professional Registration: Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer.
- Driver’s Licence: A valid driver’s licence is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
As the Chief Agricultural Engineer, you will be responsible for a wide range of critical functions, including:
- Developing and implementing specifications for all agricultural infrastructure.
- Providing strategic engineering advice and technical oversight for agricultural and rural infrastructure development, and sustainable resource programmes.
- Performing final reviews, approvals, and audits on new engineering designs based on design principles and theory.
- Coordinating design efforts and integration across various disciplines to ensure seamless technological integration.
- Managing the execution of the maintenance strategy through appropriate structures, systems, and resources.
- Setting engineering maintenance standards, specifications, and service levels aligned with organisational objectives for optimum operational availability.
- Allocating, controlling, monitoring, and reporting on all resources.
- Compiling risk logs and managing significant risks in accordance with sound risk management practices and organisational requirements.
- Providing technical consulting services for operations on engineering-related matters to minimise potential risks.
- Managing and implementing knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Facilitating short-term assignments and secondments within and across operations to support individual development plans, operational requirements, and return on investment.
- Managing funds within the Directorate in compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations.
- Ensuring the Directorate limits under-spending or overspending against departmental budget allocations.
