The Department of e-Government is seeking nominations and applications for an Independent Chairperson to lead its Risk Management Committee. This is a vital role, focusing on providing oversight for governance, risk management, internal controls, and auditing within the department.

About the Role

As the Independent Chairperson, your primary objective will be to support the Accounting Officer in their responsibilities concerning governance, risk management, internal control, legal compliance, and both internal and external auditing. The Risk Management Committee holds at least four meetings annually.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute all duties and responsibilities as stipulated in the Risk Management Committee Charter.
  • Provide oversight for the review and continuous monitoring of the department’s risk management framework, policy, and strategy.
  • Offer strategic guidance on integrating risk management practices into the department’s planning, monitoring, and reporting processes.
  • Advise on the establishment and regular review of risk appetite, tolerance statements, and anti-fraud measures.
  • Submit timely reports to the Head of Department regarding the status of risk management, identifying areas for improvement, and providing recommendations from the committee.

Requirements

  • Extensive expertise in Risk Management, Corporate Governance, the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations, the COSO model, and the Public Sector Risk Management Framework.
  • Prior experience serving on a Risk Management Committee and/or Audit Committee is a significant advantage, including knowledge of Information Technology.
  • The appointment is for a 2-year term, with potential for renewal at the discretion of the Head of Department.
  • The Chairperson may serve a maximum of two terms.
