

Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer (Faculty of Education: Department of Education Leadership and Management)

This permanent position is for an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer within the Department of Education Leadership and Management, based at the vibrant Soweto Campus. About the Department
The Department of Education Leadership and Management is one of five key departments in UJ’s Faculty of Education. Its core mission is to prepare students to become leading practitioners by shaping education leadership and management dynamically. The department is dedicated to providing innovative and high-quality teaching, learning, and research that is relevant to current contexts.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
As an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Developing curriculum and teaching for online Honours, Masters, and Advanced Diploma programmes in School Leadership and Management.
- Delivering engaging teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, utilizing contact, blended, and online modes.
- Providing research supervision for Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral students specializing in education management and leadership.
- Leading national and international research projects (Associate Professor level).
- Actively seeking and procuring funding for research initiatives (Associate Professor level).
- Participating in essential departmental activities, including academic administration, research, short-course development, and marketing.
- Engaging in community initiatives and continuous professional development for leaders at school, district, and senior management levels.
Who We Are Looking For (Minimum Requirements)
Minimum Requirements for Associate Professor:
- An awarded PhD/DEd/DPhil degree in Education Leadership and Management.
- At least 5 years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution.
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at a school level.
- A sustained and strong record of DHET-accredited research output (local and international journals/books/book chapters) in Education Leadership and Management.
- Demonstrated experience in blended and/or fully online teaching methods.
- Experience in leading research and/or leadership development projects.
- Proven experience in postgraduate supervision at both Master’s and Doctoral levels.
- An NRF rating OR a research output profile comparable to an NRF rating.
- A track record of securing research funding.
Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer:
- An awarded PhD/DEd/DPhil degree in Education Leadership and Management.
- At least 3 years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution.
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at a school level.
- A strong record of DHET-accredited research output (local and international journals/books/book chapters) in Education Leadership and Management.
- Demonstrated experience in blended and/or fully online teaching methods.
- Proven experience in postgraduate supervision at both Master’s and Doctoral levels.

- An outstanding classroom practitioner, skilled in using a range of technology-enhanced tools.

- Adept at teaching and developing materials for online education.
Highly Recommended:
- Experience collaborating with leading scholars in the field of education leadership and management.
- Proven experience in the development and delivery of online programmes.
- Leadership experience at school or district level.
