Accountant / Assistant Financial Manager (Pretoria)

Are you an experienced Accountant or Assistant Financial Manager looking for a challenging role in Pretoria? We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to join our team. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and ledgers.
  • Record journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare and process invoices, receipts, and payments.
  • Manage accounts payable (what we owe to suppliers) and accounts receivable (what customers owe us).
  • Track fixed assets, their depreciation, and amortisation schedules.
  • Manage petty cash and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Perform general administrative duties related to accounting.
  • Draft professional letters for banks, auditors, and suppliers.
  • Handle business registrations, renewals, and ensure CIPC compliance.
  • Maintain organised filing and archiving of all financial documentation.
  • Calculate and submit VAT returns (e.g., SARS VAT201 in South Africa).
  • Prepare and submit PAYE, UIF, and SDL returns.
  • Prepare Income Tax calculations and submit them to SARS.
  • Ensure full compliance with tax laws, financial regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Communicate with SARS during audits or for any queries.
  • Assist with cashflow reporting.
  • Support the yearly audit process with external auditors.

What You’ll Need (Qualifications & Experience)

  • Matric Certificate (essential).
  • A Degree or relevant Qualification in Accounting (non-negotiable).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • At least 2 years of recent experience with Pastel or Sage Evolution.
