The University of the Free State is seeking an experienced academic leader to head the Department of Private Law. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic leadership, directing academic debates, and shaping the future of the department.
Key Responsibilities
The Academic Head of Department will be responsible for:
- Providing academic leadership and creating a visionary academic strategy for the department
- Directing academic debates and influencing the department’s overall climate and culture
- Energising staff and students, and shaping the future of the department
- Contributing to faculty leadership and participating in faculty management structures
- Managing staff performance, recruiting and selecting scholars, and overseeing staff development
- Ensuring quality and timely feedback on student work, and providing academic advice and support to students
Requirements
The successful candidate must have:
- A Doctoral degree on NQF level10 in the field of Private Law or a related field
- A full-time, permanent appointment as an academic staff member in the Department of Private Law at the University of the Free State
- Appointed at the Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor level
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of three years’ lecturing/leadership experience at a tertiary institution
- Experience in operational management of a department
- Experience in delivering postgraduate students specialising in Private Law
