The University of the Free State is seeking a suitable candidate for the position of Academic Head of Department in the Department of Private Law.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic leadership, directing academic debates, and influencing the department’s overall climate and culture.

Responsibilities

The Academic Head of Department will be responsible for:

• Creating and executing strategies to establish the department as a leader in the field of Private Law
• Directing academic debates and influencing the department’s overall climate and culture
• Energising staff and students
• Shaping the future of the department
• Contributing to the overall leadership in the faculty
• Managing staff performance and development
• Ensuring quality and timely feedback on student work

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

• A Doctoral degree on NQF level ten (10) in the field of Private Law or a related field
• A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Department of Private Law at the University of the Free State (UFS)
• Appointed at the Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor level
