Who Can Apply?

Think you’ve got what it takes? Here’s what you need to qualify for the Investec Bursary. Make sure you tick all these boxes, because if you don’t, your application might not be considered:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You must have already completed Matric, or you need to be currently in Matric.
  • You must plan to study, or currently be in your 1st year of full-time study, towards an undergraduate degree in one of the fields listed below.
  • You must be studying or planning to study at a recognised and accredited public university in South Africa (sorry, no private institutions for this one!).
  • You must have scored at least 70% for Mathematics (and no, Mathematical Literacy won’t cut it!) in Matric.
  • You must have achieved a minimum of 70% for English First Additional Language or 65% for English Home Language in Matric.
  • You must have scored at least 60% for all your other subjects in Matric.
  • If you’re already at university, you need a minimum overall average of 60% for your first semester examinations.
  • Special note for Actuarial Science applicants: You must be in your first year of study (unless you’re doing a Business Science degree at UCT).

How to Apply?

  3. Gather all your documents! You’ll need to submit clear, certified copies along with your application. Don’t miss anything, or your application might be disqualified. Here’s your checklist:
    • Your South African ID document (certified copy, please!)
    • Your 2025 mid-year (first semester) results or a progress report (if you’re not studying this year, send your latest results).
    • Your Matric certificate (if you’ve already completed Matric).
    • Proof of your parents’ or guardians’ household income. This could be:
      • Latest payslips if they’re employed.
      • An affidavit if they’re unemployed.
      • An affidavit stating their annual income if they’re self-employed.
      • Their most recent audited financial statement or 3 months’ most recent bank statements if they own a business.
      • A SASSA letter stating any grants received, if applicable.
    • If your parents are deceased, their death certificates.
    • If your parents are divorced, their divorce certificate. If they’re separated, a sworn statement from one parent.

The closing date for the Investec Bursary is 30 September 2025. Mark this in your calendar and make sure you apply way before the deadline to ensure your application gets considered!
