This awesome 24-month programme, brought to you by Safair Operations (that’s FlySafair!), is all about developing young, talented individuals in South Africa’s aviation sector. They’re offering 8 apprenticeship positions – 4 for Mechanical and 4 for Avionics. It’s a chance to get real, on-the-job training with experienced technicians, working on various aircraft models and setting you up for success in the industry.

Who Can Apply?

FlySafair is looking for dedicated South African youth ready to launch their careers. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • You must have a Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent qualification (this is super important!).
  • You need to have completed a recognized theoretical Aviation Training course or qualification specifically in Mechanical or Avionics.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office will come in handy.
  • You must be willing to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays – aviation doesn’t stop!

And for your personal superpower attributes:

  • Great communication skills (both talking and writing).
  • Ability to handle pressure like a pro.
  • Excellent time-management – punctuality is key in aviation!
  • Integrity and a professional attitude.
  • A team player with self-motivation.

What Does It Cover?

This apprenticeship programme is designed to give you comprehensive training and exposure. You’ll be doing a lot more than just watching! Here’s a peek at your potential responsibilities:

  • Working alongside experienced Mechanical/Avionics Technicians, you’ll learn to diagnose and repair aircraft systems.
  • You’ll assist with disassembling, adjusting, and modifying aircraft electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Get involved in Flight Line, Short Visit Maintenance, and Heavy Maintenance activities.
  • Support fueling and de-fueling operations.
  • Learn all about aircraft documentation processes and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Operate ground power and other aircraft service units.
  • Help maintain service equipment and monitor company vehicles.
  • Always follow safety procedures and correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE).

Basically, you’ll gain hands-on experience across the board, preparing you for a thriving career in aviation!
