Tronox is proud to welcome a new cohort of 24 learners who officially began their learnership programme on 1 June. These young individuals come from the communities surrounding our operations and local municipalities.
In an economy that continues to struggle with job creation, especially among the youth, Tronox is committed to providing meaningful opportunities that empower young people and build future-ready skills.
As a key component of our Social and Labour Plan (SLP), the learnership and apprenticeship programme reflects our strong commitment to community development and building a sustainable workforce.
This initiative is designed to equip individuals from local communities with valuable skills and recognised qualifications, laying the foundation for long-term employment opportunities.
Open to a broad range of applicants, the programme welcomed individuals who had completed Grade 12, with programme durations varying depending on the discipline, typically spanning one to two years.
Learners will receive training and gain experience in the following fields: Laboratory, Metal Production and Minerals Processing.
A second intake will consist of 14 apprentice learners who will begin on 1 July. These learners will have completed Grade 12 along with N3 theoretical engineering subjects. Apprenticeship durations typically range from four to five years, depending on the discipline.
The available apprenticeship trades include:
- Millwright
- Fitting
- Boiler making
- Instrument mechanics
- Electrical
Through this initiative, we aim to unlock potential, support economic empowerment and contribute meaningfully to the development of our communities.
