Who Can Apply?
The CoJ EISD Bursary Programme is looking for dedicated graduates to join their team. You’ll need to meet specific academic requirements for each exciting stream:

Finance Internship:
- National Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Management Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.

Administration Officer Internship:
- National Diploma or Degree in Office Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.

Water Management and Biodiversity Internship:
- Degree in Town and Regional Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Geoscience, or Geohydrology.

Energy Internship:
- Bachelor of Science (BSc), or a Degree in Engineering, Construction Project Management, or Energy Studies.
Successful candidates will sign an internship agreement and a fixed-term employment contract, committing to full participation in both workplace and educational training for the programme duration.
What Does It Cover?
This bursary programme offers comprehensive exposure and practical training within the City of Johannesburg’s Environmental Infrastructure Service Department, covering diverse and impactful roles:

Finance Intern: You’ll dive into applying accounting procedures, assisting with procurement, processing entries, handling creditors/debtors, and ensuring compliance with CoJ’s Supply Chain Management Policy. You’ll also help with stock control and asset verification.
Skills you’ll gain: Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel, strong communication, administration, coordination, and basic knowledge of Accounting Standards (GRAP). -
Administration Officer Intern: Your role will involve providing essential administrative support, from filing and scheduling to preparing reports. You’ll help consolidate documentation, capture employee data for compliance, and assist with audits.
Skills you’ll gain: Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel, strong communication, organizational skills, and a basic understanding of HR training processes. -
Water Management and Biodiversity Intern: You’ll support the directorate with administrative tasks, assist in water service regulation, policy development, catchment management, and handle borehole/development applications. You’ll also help with monitoring programmes and open space planning.
Skills you’ll gain: Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel, strong coordination, communication, and knowledge of Environmental Management, Town Planning, and the National Water Act. -
Energy Intern: You’ll contribute to policy and strategy development within the City’s Energy Framework, assist with stakeholder management, and help develop energy service delivery frameworks. You’ll even facilitate engagements with government and industry partners!
Skills you’ll gain: Knowledge of climate change, climate financing, energy sector trends, strong project management, report-writing, and excellent communication and analytical skills.
