City of Cape Town Metro Police and Traffic Learnership Bursary 2026 – Closing Date: 06 November 2025 – Apply Now!

Hey future crime-fighter or traffic enforcer! 🚨 Ever dreamed of serving your community and keeping the streets of Cape Town safe? Well, listen up, because the City of Cape Town is offering an incredible Metro Police and Traffic Learnership for 2026, and it could be your ticket to an exciting career!

This isn’t just a job; it’s a full-on training program designed to turn passionate young South Africans into skilled law enforcement officers. You’ll get hands-on experience, receive a stipend while you learn, and kickstart a vital role in ensuring public safety. Ready to make a real difference?

This learnership is a fantastic opportunity provided by the City of Cape Town’s Corporate Services Directorate. It’s designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to become a Metro Police or Traffic officer. You’ll go through intensive academic and physical training, earning a Further Education and Training Certificate in Road Traffic Law Enforcement and completing a Law Enforcement Skills Programme. It’s all about developing competent, dedicated individuals to uphold the law and keep Cape Town moving safely.

Who Can Apply?

Think you’ve got what it takes to join the ranks? Here’s a breakdown of who should hit that apply button:

  • You need a Grade 12 qualification (make sure you have the original certificate!).
  • You must be a permanent resident within the City of Cape Town’s jurisdiction – proof will be needed.
  • You should be proficient in English and at least one other official South African language.
  • You must be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Being medically and physically fit is a must, as the training is intense!
  • Mental resilience is key – you’ll need to cope well under pressure.
  • No criminal record or pending cases allowed.
  • A valid driver’s licence (minimum Code B – manual transmission) is essential.
  • No visible tattoos when wearing a uniform.
  • You must be unemployed as of 7 January 2026 (the enrolment date).

Shortlisted candidates will face some serious (but totally doable!) physical fitness tests. These are elimination-based, so bring your A-game! Expect things like a 2.4 km run, push-ups, sit-ups, dead load carries, tyre drags, shuttle runs, a wall clearance, motorcycle reach test, and a comfort swim. Sorry, pregnant applicants won’t be able to participate in the physical assessments.

Beyond physical prowess, you’ll need to pass written assessments, interviews, a City medical evaluation (including a drug test!), and a City driver assessment. Psychological and continuous fitness evaluations are also part of the deal. Basically, they want to make sure you’re the real deal!

What Does It Cover?

While you’re training to become a superhero of the streets, you won’t be doing it for free! Successful learners will receive a stipend of R36.66 per hour during the training period. This covers your time and helps with living expenses while you focus on your development. Remember, this is about investing in your future and gaining invaluable skills!
