Who Can Apply?

Think you’ve got what it takes? Check if you meet these requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You need to be studying one of the approved chiropractic programs at either Durban University of Technology (DUT) or the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
  • You should be in your 4th, 5th, or 6th year of study.

What Does It Cover?

This bursary is designed to support your chiropractic studies, specifically for the following programs:

  • Durban University of Technology (DUT): The 4-year professional Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) in Chiropractic, followed by a Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) in Chiropractic.
  • University of Johannesburg (UJ): The 4-year Bachelor of Health Sciences in Chiropractic, followed by a Master of Health Sciences in Chiropractic.

CASA’s focus is on supporting you through these advanced stages of your chiropractic education, helping you complete your professional qualification.

How to Apply?

Ready to get your application in? Here’s what you need to do:

Make sure you have these clear copies of your supporting documents ready. Seriously, don’t skip anything – missing documents could mean your application isn’t considered!

  • A recent photo of yourself.
  • Your full academic record.
  • Proof of registration from your university.
  • Two reference letters: One from a staff member at your institution (ideally the Head of Department) and one from a qualified CASA member (Note: current CASA council members cannot write referral letters). Need help with reference letters? Check out this guide: Academic Reference Letter Guide.
  • A one-page “Biosketch” about yourself. This should cover your contributions to the profession (like relevant memberships, university participation, sports, community service), why you chose chiropractic, where you see yourself after qualifying, and your ambitions for the field.
  • Your choice of either an interview OR a short 15-minute video presentation titled “Why me?”. Your video should explain why you’re applying, your personal statement, and how this bursary will help you achieve your educational and career goals. (Max 1GB zip file for the video).

A few important tips for your documents:

  • Submit everything in PDF format (except for the video). Each PDF should be less than 5 MB. The video can be up to a 1GB zip file.
  • Make sure your documents are scanned clearly or are good quality photos.
  • Name and upload each document individually using this format: “(Document Type)_(Your Name)” (e.g., “Identification Documents_Thabo”).
