Who Can Apply?

- Be available to start your studies in China from October 2025.
- Be proficient in English. Don’t worry about a separate English test; the Department will provide a waiver as all South African students study and write exams in English.
- Show a genuine interest in China and a strong commitment to South Africa’s development.
- You must be between 18 and 29 years old.
- Be prepared to learn Chinese! You’ll need to pass a Chinese language test (HSK4) during your first year, as the 3-year diploma will be delivered in Chinese.
What Does It Cover?
This is a truly comprehensive scholarship designed to remove financial barriers. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) will cover:
- Full tuition fees for your three-year diploma.
- One return economy airfare to China at the start of your studies.
- One return mid-term economy airfare during your programme.

- Your visa costs.
- A compulsory orientation programme before you depart.

- Clear scanned copy of your passport home page (valid until at least September 1, 2026). If you don’t have one yet, you can submit it by 15 September 2025.
- Copy of your South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) or vocational secondary education diploma.
- Your Resume (CV) with accessible references.
- A Police Clearance Certificate (non-criminal record) from SAPS or Postlink. Applications without this will not be considered!
- A recently taken passport photo with a white background.
- A completed and stamped Chinese Foreigner Physical Examination Form, along with full medicals as required by the Chinese government. Familiarise yourself with their excluded medical conditions. Applications without this form will not be considered! Medical tests can be done at any registered public or private medical facility.
