I completed a Diploma in Policing at the Academy Vaal University of Technology, a program that equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to become a professional police officer. The diploma program, which I started in 2022 and completed in 2024, covered a wide range of topics related to policing, including:- Introduction to policing and law enforcement - Criminal law and procedure - Investigative techniques and forensic science - Community policing and public relations - Emergency response and crisis management - Ethics and human rights in policingThroughout the program, I was engaged in a combination of theoretical and practical learning, including lectures, tutorials, and hands-on training exercises. The program provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of policing, as well as the skills and knowledge required to effectively prevent and investigate crime.Some of the key skills and competencies I acquired through this program include:- Knowledge of criminal law and procedure - Investigative and analytical skills - Communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to work effectively in a team environment - Understanding of community policing and public relations principles - Familiarity with emergency response and crisis management proceduresUpon completing the program in 2024, I was equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to pursue a career in law enforcement, and to make a positive contribution to my community as a professional police officer.
Work & Experience
I had the opportunity to serve as a mentor for first-year students pursuing a Diploma in Policing at the Academy Vaal University of Technology from April to November 2024. As a mentor, my role was to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to students as they navigated their first year of study.My responsibilities included:- Providing academic support and guidance to students, helping them to understand course material and complete assignments - Offering advice and encouragement to students, helping them to stay motivated and focused on their goals - Facilitating group discussions and study sessions, helping students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills - Helping students to develop time management and organizational skills, ensuring they stayed on top of their coursework and assignments - Providing feedback and guidance on student assignments and projects, helping them to improve their writing and research skillsThrough this experience, I developed strong communication and interpersonal skills, learning how to effectively engage with students and provide support tailored to their individual needs.
