WEINERT Foundation invites South African students to apply for Bursary Programme 2025.

The Weinert Foundation Bursary Programme offers funding for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in specific fields at selected South African universities. Below are the key details, eligibility requirements, and application process for this bursary.
Fields of Study Covered:
- Materials Science
- Mechatronic Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Physics (specialising in photonics is preferred)
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the bursary:
- South African Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen.
- Study Status: You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Field of Study: You must be studying or intending to study towards one of the fields listed above.
- Institution: You must be studying or intend on studying at one of the following institutions:
- University of the Witwatersrand (WITS)
- Stellenbosch University (SU)
- Nelson Mandela University (NMU)
- University of Pretoria (UP)
- Age Requirements:
- Undergraduate bursary: You must be under 21 years old in the year of application.
- Masters bursary: You must be under 26 years old in the year of application.
- PhD bursary: You must be under 30 years old in the year of application.
- Academic Requirements:
- Undergraduate: You must have achieved at least 60% in Pure Mathematics and a minimum overall average of 70% for your preliminary Matric results (excluding Life Orientation).
- Masters: You must have completed a BSc Honours in a related field with a minimum weighted average of 65%.
- PhD: You must have completed a Research Master’s degree in a related field. You should have identified and approached an academic supervisor prior to applying.
How to Apply:
Step 1: Complete the online application form via the Weinert Foundation Bursary Application 2025.
Step 2: Submit clear copies of the following documents (the submission of these documents is compulsory – incomplete applications may be disqualified):
- Certified copy of your ID document
- Certified copy of your Matric Certificate or latest results
- Certified copy of your highest qualification completed (for postgraduate applicants)
- Proof of application, acceptance, or registration at one of the listed institutions
Bursary Selection Process:
- Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted, and successful candidates will be notified by 23 December 2024.
- Interviews:
- First round of interviews will be held between 6 and 10 January 2025.
- Final round of interviews will be held between 13 and 17 January 2025.
- Final Selection: Successful candidates will be announced between 20 and 31 January 2025.
Closing Date:
- 20 December 2024 (Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted).
