Bursary Description
On Wednesday, March 5, a student, driving her vehicle, was involved in a collision with a minibus taxi at the intersection. The student has been hospitalised. Regrettably, three people in the minibus taxi died. None of the deceased were connected to the university.
UWC Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Balfour extended his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this incident. “Our thoughts are also with the injured student and all those affected by this accident,” he said.
Prof Balfour urged all road users to exercise caution and vigilance to prevent such tragedies.
“This incident suggests to me that the safety of commuters and pedestrians on Robert Sobukwe Road is an urgent matter and I want to use this opportunity to express our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased in that calamity. We will, on an urgent basis, engage with the City of Cape town in respect of implementing traffic calming measures on Robert Sobukwe Road.”
