Bursary Description

Leinster GAA is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2024/5 Student Bursary scheme, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the educational development of GAA members across the Province. This initiative, part of the wider GAA National Student Bursary Scheme, provides financial assistance to students actively involved in the GAA while pursuing full-time higher education.

Eligible candidates must be GAA members enrolled in a full-time higher education course and active participants in their college’s GAA club. The scheme specifically excludes those already receiving a GAA-related or college scholarship. Applicants will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including their involvement in playing, coaching, and administration within the GAA. Special consideration will be given to those excelling in coaching, administration, communication, and promotion of GAA activities.

Cathaoirleach Comhairle Laighean, Derek Kent, emphasised the importance of this initiative:

“At Leinster GAA, we are proud to continue our tradition of supporting the academic ambitions of our members while nurturing their commitment to the GAA. These bursaries are more than just financial aid – they are an investment in the future of our association, recognising the dedication of students who contribute both on and off the field.”

The GAA has invested over €1.6 million in its bursary schemes to date, illustrating its long-standing commitment to the development of young athletes and administrators.

Applications for the 2025 scheme are now open, with the deadline set for Friday, November 22nd, at 9pm.

Senior inter-county players who were on their county’s senior panel in 2023 are advised to apply for bursaries via the Gaelic Players Association. For more details, please visit www.gaelicplayers.com.
