The Sibona Ilanga Trust invites South African students living within a 50km radius of the De Aar Solar Power Plant to apply for its Bursary Programme for the 2025 academic year.

About the Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary

Managed by StudyTrust, the bursary is open to individuals who want to study at recognised South African public or private tertiary institutions, including TVET colleges, universities of technology, or academic universities.


Fields and Programmes Covered:

  • NQF Level 6 technical qualifications
  • Skills training (e.g. plumbing, bricklaying, etc.)
  • National diploma programmes
  • Degree programmes

Who Can Apply:

  • South African citizens
  • Reside within a 50km radius of the De Aar Solar Power Plant
  • Accepted or already studying at a recognised South African tertiary institution
  • Out-of-school individuals who completed NSC/NTC in previous years are also eligible

What the Bursary Covers:

The bursary value is calculated based on financial need and may include:

  • Tuition, registration, and examination fees
  • Residence or equivalent accommodation
  • Meals
  • Learning materials (e.g. textbooks and stationery)

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic performance: Grade 12 final/prelim results or highest grade passed
  • Financial need: Applicants must show they lack sufficient resources to fund their studies
