Sasol engineering bursaries now open for matrics

  • Sasol has launched applications for its university bursaries programme.
  • Eligible matrics with excellent marks can now apply to study science and engineering degrees.
  • The bursary covers full tuition, accommodation, a laptop, and even a stipend.

Matric learners interested in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics can now apply to join the Sasol bursaries programme, which has just launched its 2026 academic year application period.

The energy firm says that the bursary programme is “one of the most exciting ways for young South Africans to turn their passions into powerful careers, and access tertiary education opportunities.”

“Whether you’re into coding, designing machines, solving big problems with data, or building the future with renewable energy, Sasol wants to help you make those dreams a reality.”

According to an announcement from Sasol, if accepted to the programme, students will benefit from 100 percent coverage of their tuition fees at a registered public university in South Africa of their choice.

As well as paid-off accommodation and meals, a monthly stipend, allowance for a laptop and calculator, and it is offering paid vacation work, meaning that in your downtime you can gain experience at Sasol.

Who is eligible for the Sasol bursary programme

There are some limitations as not all who apply will be considered. Sasol says that bare awarded for full-time university studies in engineering and science and it does not accept Technical Math or Math’s Literacy.

Additionally, candidates need to be Grade 12 high school learners and they must have “exceptional marks.” Bursaries are awarded for a standard 4-year degree. Studies must be full-time, and no bursaries will be awarded for hybrid courses.

Applications may be submitted for undergraduate degrees in the following:

  • Chemical Engineering,
  • Chemistry (Studies to Hons. level will be required),
  • Civil Engineering Data Science – Computer Science,
  • Data Science – Mathematics,
  • Data Science – Operations Research,
  • Data Science – Statistics,
  • Electrical Engineering Electronic Engineering Geology  (Studies to Hons. level will be required),
  • Industrial Engineering Mechanical Engineering Metallurgy (Studies to Hons. level will be required),
  • and Mining Engineering.
