Bursary Description

The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) invites South African postgraduate students to apply for the SANSA Postgraduate Bursary Programme 2026.

Bursary Application Closing Date: 30 September 2025
Bursary Location: South Africa (National – public universities)
Age Requirement: 32 years or younger


This opportunity is aimed at nurturing young talent in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), in support of South Africa’s National Development Plan.


Fields of Study Funded Include (but are not limited to):

  • Remote Sensing & GIS
  • Environmental Science & Management
  • Geoinformatics, Ecology, Botany
  • Computer Science, Information Systems
  • Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering
  • Applied Mathematics, Physics, Energy Studies
  • Space Science, Statistical Ecology

Eligibility Criteria:

  • South African citizen aged 32 or younger
  • Studying or intending to study a relevant postgraduate STEM qualification
  • Minimum 65% average in most recent academic year
  • Must submit a complete application with all required documents
  • Incomplete or encrypted applications will not be considered

Required Documents:

  • Full official academic record (from 1st year to latest results)
  • Proof of undergraduate fee funding (e.g., NSFAS letter or student account statement)
  • Certified copy of ID (within the last 3 months)
  • Master’s applicants: 2-page signed research proposal + testimonial from a lecturer or supervisor
  • Doctoral applicants: 4-page signed research proposal + testimonial from a lecturer or supervisor
