Master’s and PhD Studies
For postgraduate students pursuing Master’s or Doctoral degrees locally or abroad.Postdoctoral Research
Supports researchers enrolled in postdoctoral programmes at local or international institutions.Sabbatical Support
For full-time academics at South African public universities who plan to undertake sabbatical research.
Funding Details
Amount: Varies per individual. Not a full-cost scholarship. Applicants are encouraged to seek additional funding.
Duration: Covers one academic year. Renewal is performance-based.
Who Can Apply
Master’s/PhD Applicants:
Must be South African citizens or permanent residents
Registered or planning to register for postgraduate studies in 2025/2026
Accepted by a recognised local or international institution
Strong academic performance required
If applying for overseas study, clear justification must be provided
Postdoctoral Applicants:
Open to South Africans, permanent residents, and international candidates
Must show academic excellence and commitment to research in South Africa
Sabbatical Applicants:
Required Documents
Certified ID or passport
Professional photograph
CV (3–4 pages max)
Academic records and degree certificates
Proof of acceptance/registration
Project or study outline
Budget estimate (tuition, travel, living expenses, etc.)
Motivational letter (max 500 words)
Income proof
Three reference letters (submitted directly by referees)
