Applications Now Open for OMET 2026 Scholarships
The Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) is inviting applications for its 2026 scholarship programme. This opportunity is open to first-time undergraduate students who are:
Members of specific trade unions
Employees of those unions
Legal dependents or spouses of members or employees
The scholarship supports those studying towards certificates, diplomas, or degrees at public universities in South Africa.
What the Scholarship Offers
Successful applicants may receive:
Up to R70,000 for educational expenses
A laptop
Tutoring and academic counselling
Career guidance, mentorship, and training
Opportunities for internships or vacation work
Who Qualifies
To apply, you must:
Be a South African citizen
Be in Matric (Grade 12) in 2025 or have already completed it
Be planning to study full-time at a public university in South Africa in 2026
Be applying for your first undergraduate qualification
Applicants must not apply for funding for:
Postgraduate studies
A second qualification
Short courses
Eligible Unions

You qualify if you are:
Selection Process
Only 60 candidates will be selected
Selections are based on academic performance and eligibility
Final interviews: 30 September – 2 October 2025
Final decisions: November 2025
